It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 10/26/15 #imwayr

This week brought about an accidental theme of sorts. The main characters in the books I read this week really showcased the innocence, simplicity, and honesty that kids have. These are the types of kids that make me want to be a teacher–I learn more from them than they do from me!

Ramona Forever 

Ah, Ramona….back again with even more spunk. Times are changing for the Quimby family. Ramona’s mother is expecting another baby, Ramona’s Aunt Beatrice is getting married, among many other changes. Excited and a little scared, Ramona keeps on keeping on through everything that happens.

Beverly Cleary never seems to disappoint–I always enjoy a Ramona book. I have noticed the last few Ramona books that I’ve found have a new cover design. Upon further searching, Cleary’s covers have been redone multiple times. Does anyone know why they do this?

Skinnybones

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book…It ended up being a very quick, funny read. It is about Alex, a string bean of a boy that likes to run his mouth and consequently, ends up in trouble. I felt like this was Barbara Park’s male version of Junie B. Jones. While reading this book I laughed out loud (I don’t think I’ve done that with a book before!) Alex’s humor is so funny because of how real it is–I can think of a handful of boys that I’ve worked with that act just like Alex. A great read!

Maniac Magee

After seeing this book pop up on multiple blogs, I knew I had to read it. I will admit, it took me a little while to get into, but once I was hooked, this book was a great read. After being orphaned, Maniac Magee lives on the run. He becomes kind of like a superhero, popping into people’s lives when they need him and he needs them. In a world that judges people by the color of their skin, Maniac disagrees and breaks the gap between a segregated area. Maniac is wise beyond his years and we can all learn something from the way he sees the world.
