This week, I am going to be publishing a few top ten lists to wrap up my semester of blogging. The first contains my top 10 reads of the semester.
The One and Only Ivan
Wow! Was I glad to have this as required reading. Not something I would pick up, but so glad to be directed to it by my professor!
Dear. Mr Henshaw
My search for a core classroom library took a short detour through a minor obsession with Beverly Clearly. I feel like her books are well received among various audiences.
Hatchet
This book took me out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed reading it!
Esperanza Rising
This book wowed me. I think my top ten reads of the semester could easily be called the top ten books that I was pleasantly surprised by.
Mr. Wuffles
This semester was my first introduction to wordless books. I read quite a few and they are really neat!
Diary of A Wimpy Kid
This book craze missed me, and I’m glad to have gotten the chance to see what this Wimpy Kid business is all about!
The Adventures of Beekle, The Unimaginary Friend
I just loved the way this book captivated the group of kids that I read it to.
Strega Nona
Again, what makes this books special is the group of kids I read it with. Their reactions made for a fun experience!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
A great find late in the semester. Liked it so much that I plan to read the rest after the class is finished!
Al Capone Shines My Shoes
I read the first book before their was a sequel and later rediscovered it during this class. A fun find!
What was it about Hatchet that took you out of your comfort zone? I would like to check it out.

Adventure/survival books aren’t normally my cup of tea, but this one proved me wrong!

So glad you took a detour through Beverly Cleary this semester! My favorite author when I was a child and I have to say, her books really hold up. I’ve reread most of the Ramona books in the last 3-4 years. I want to reread Dear Mr Henshaw too–maybe over break.

She has quite few titles. I was skeptical about her non Ramona books, (Mitch and Amy, Henry and the Paper route…) but they are all great!
