Every week Leah at Uncorked Thoughts brings us a Harry Potter Moment of the Week to ponder. This week’s topic: Favorite McGonagall Moment.
Professor McGonagall is one of my favorite characters in the books. She is a fantastic teacher—brave, daring, and cares about her students, even if that means showing them a little tough love.
I am going with the scene that first came to mind, from the first book. During the first years first flying lesson, Neville (inevitably so), does something klutzy to injure himself and Madam Hooch has to leave to take him to the hospital wing. While she is gone, the students are to not touch the brooms. Without missing a beat, Malfoy taunts Harry until they are both on their brooms, flying around the field. McGonagall happens to see this exchange and takes note. Later, she pulls Harry aside. He thinks he is in trouble for it, but instead McGonagall informs him that she wants him to be the seeker for the Gryffindor quidditch team. I don’t know why this is my favorite, but I just find McGonagall’s humor and way of going about things amusing. She is very cunning. A good fit for head of Gryffindor if you ask me

I agree–this was a great moment! I liked that rare smile she gave Harry at the end conversation with Wood, where she told Harry how proud his dad would have been. It was just the beginning of some of the information about his Mom and Dad that I was craving as a reader! It’s hard not to love McGonagall, isn’t it? 🙂

I agree! With all the crazy things that happen in the books, she is one of the constants. Keeps everyone grounded.

I, too, love McGonagall! She has a sense of justice and fairness that is admirable. I love how she does not waiver on the rules, even for her favorite Gryffidors!

I love this moment. I love how she couldn’t hide her pride in her team. It reminds me of my school district at home. On every Friday, every teacher wears our team shirt of some sorts and it is like a sea of blue and yellow. I love her pride!

Agreed! I’ve never really thought about the house heads as more than just house heads before, but they really embody the spirit of each house.
